Courtship/Gestation/Birth: 1 to 4 young after a pregnancy of 3 months. Young reach full size in a year and a half.

Remarks: Binturongs communicate with each other by scent. Each animal has a special gland under its tail that produces a strong-smelling oil. As a binturong travels, it sometimes stops and rubs it hindquarters against a branch. This makes a scent mark and lets other binturongs know it has passed by. The binturong is a kind of civet. All civets communicate with scent. Binturongs can live more than 20 years in captivity.
