Classes
Hop on over to the Henson Robinson Zoo to discover more about animals and their ecosystems. Have a WILD time with fun animal games and crafts! Explore the zoo and observe some beastly behavior! All classes require pre-registration and pre-payment at least 24 hours before the class.

To register by phone, call (217)585-1821 and pay using your credit card. To register by mail, complete the registration form [PDF, 63k] & send it with payment to: Henson Robinson Zoo, Education Department, 1100 East Lake Shore Dr., Springfield, IL 62712. Once you register & pay, no refunds will be given. If you wish to withdraw a student from class, you must call at least 24 hours prior to class in order to receive a voucher for future classes or camps. If you withdraw with less than 24 hours notice, don’t show for class, or call us after the class has taken place, you will NOT be allowed to receive a voucher or move a student to another class.

Zoo Tot


Zoo Tot classes, held in our zoo classroom, are a chance for you and your child (ages 2-5) to share a fun and educational experience at the zoo together! Each class includes stories, animal visits, cool crafts, games, and more! Fees per class for one adult and one child are $8.00 for Springfield Park District Residents or zoo members and $10.50 for Non-Residents and Non-Members. Costs are $5.00 per extra child enrolled. Due to space restrictions, you may not bring more than one grown-up per class. You may register for either the Tuesday, Wednesday OR the Thursday class. You must pre-register and pre-pay for each class at least 24 hours before the class. Registration for Fall 2015 Zoo Tot classes will open Friday, July 24th, 2015.

Zooper Edventures


Zooper Edventures classes are held on Saturdays from 1:00-3:00 P.M. and are filled with theme related games, crafts, a zoo discovery walk and fun learning! Zooper Edventures are $10.00 per class for Springfield Park District Residents & zoo members and $12.50 per class for non-residents. Pre-registration is required.

ZooCamp

ZooCamp is a chance for your 7-12 year old to have a wild time at the Zoo! ZooCamp is held from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. on Wednesdays, Thursdays, & Fridays in June, July and August. Costs are $50 for Springfield Park District Residents or Zoo Members and $60 for Non-Residents. Registration for ZooCamp begins Friday, May 1, 2015.

Backyard Critter Crew

You come to the zoo to see the animals living inside the exhibits, but in this camp, we will be looking for life outside the cages! Our mission is to search, discover and have a blast learning about Illinois’s native species!
Team T.L.C.

Endangered species are in trouble and need some tender loving care! Find out why they need our help and how we can jump into conservation action!

Junior Zookeeper


This 8 class course challenges teens ages 13 to 17 with hands-on activities that allow them to learn about how Henson Robinson Zoo makes conservation, education, animal care and animal enrichment our top priorities. Junior Zookeepers will not only expand their knowledge about animals and conservation issues, but also acquire actual handling experience with some of our education use animals. Our activities will also help to develop students' collaborative work skills and oral communication skills.

Session Choices:
Session A: Saturdays, 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. May 30 - August 1 (no class July 4 or 11)
Session B: Tuesdays, 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. June 9 - July 28

Price Per Session:
$100 Park District Residents and Zoo Members
$120 Non-Residents

In each session, Junior Zookeepers are challenged with hands on activities that allow them to learn about how Henson Robinson Zoo operates and how we care for the animals within the zoo.

Class 6: Animal Health: Diets and Medical Care
Class 7: Enriching Animal Behavior: Research and Training Techniques
Class 8: Enriching Animal Behavior: Observation, Analysis and Development


Enrollment is limited to 10 students per session. You must choose wither Session A (Saturdays 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.) or Session B (Tuesdays 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.). Registration for Junior Zookeepers begins on Friday, May 1, 2015 at 8:00 a.m. No registrations will be allowed before this date.
