Animals in the wild are exposed to many infectious diseases. In order to ensure that all animals in the zoo are and remain healthy, new arrival undergo quarantine under the supervision of a veterinarian and the zoo's staff. Once they get a clean bill of health, they are placed in the appropriate exhibit.
