Have you ever dreamed of owning a spider monkey, bringing up a boa constrictor or buying a friend a vulture? Many children and adults who visit Henson Robinson Zoo wonder what it would be like to take care of one of our many animals. We offer you the chance to do just this--through our Adopt an Animal program!
The Springfield Zoological Society is offering you a chance to become a Henson Robinson Zoo Parent and enjoy animal "parenthood" without all the work. Our professional staff will take care of your "wild child" by doing all the cleaning, feeding and daily maintenance. You will have the satisfaction of knowing that you are helping to pay for the annual food, medicine and veterinary care for your selected animal.
Simply complete the application and send it, along with your check, to the address on the application. When your year of "parenthood" is over, we will contact you, offering you the first opportunity to renew your application.
Feeding a family of nearly 400 is certainly no easy task and it gets quite expensive. It is not only how much the animals eat, but the types of food that determine our animal food budget. Approximately 50 different food items from live crickets for the frogs to the bale of hay for the donkeys are required to feed our animal family. Presently our animal food costs are approximately $30,000 every year. Veterinary care adds another $10,000. Your help is greatly needed and very appreciated.
Your donation amount is based on the annual costs to feed the animals, ranging from a minimum fee of $15 up to $100 for larger animals. Any individual, business, classroom, youth group or other organization can adopt an animal.
Checks should be made payable to the Springfield Zoological Society. The Society is a not-for-profit corporation and your adoption is fully tax deductible.
Animals supported by this program are live specimens and are subject to the same frailties as humans. Some must be moved, or may be loaned or traded to another zoo for breeding purposes. If your "adopted" animal leaves the zoo, your gift will still be used (and appreciated) for the remainder of your sponsorship.
